IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR ALL SYHA COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS
Simsbury Youth Hockey Association is a program made up entirely of volunteers who all work diligently to make SYHA better. We would like to thank all of our volunteers in advance and encourage everyone in our SYHA community to get involved either on or off the ice as we look to a great season ahead!
Please note that USA Hockey now requires that all of the following individuals must be Screened and SafeSport certified (mandatory) in the coming season:
Players / Coaches / Volunteers with a birth year of 2002 or earlier. This includes SYHA Midget and Girls U19 players born in 2002 or prior
Team Managers. New this season, all team managers must be listed on his/her team's official USA Hockey roster.
Locker Room Monitors. New this season, a locker room monitor must be identified and rostered for EACH team. The Team Manager can serve as the Locker Room Monitor, however, gender should be a consideration especially in our older age divisions. For more information on our Locker Room Policy, please click HERE.
As of 4/1/19, the SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are now only valid for one (1) season. If you took the training during the 2018-19 season, it is still valid for 2019-20. CHC Screening remains valid for two (2) seasons.
To best prepare for the season ahead, SYHA suggests that anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should complete these requirements as soon as possible to avoid delays with submitting official rosters.
The links to complete these requirements is below (there is no fee to complete any of these requirements):
NOTE: You will not recieve any kind of confirmation when your screening is complete. You will only be notified in the event there are questions about your application. For SafeSport, please print/save your Certificate of Completion for your records. It is important to save it as there have been system issues in the past and you must produce this certificate to prove you completed the course.
Once you have completed your requirements, please remember to register with Simsbury Youth Hockey by clicking HERE. If you plan to be on-ice next season, please register as a Coach (you do not need to register twice if you are also a volunteer). If you will not be on-ice, please register as a Volunteer.
Thanks again for your support. We're looking foward to a great season!
If you have any questions on the requirements above, please contact SYHA Registrar,
or SYHA SafeSport Director,

In October 2003, James A. Stover, an SYHA skater, passed away tragically in a sudden accident while playing on a beach at Block Island. He was seven years old. Among James's many passions was hockey, and his zest for life and happy attitude were always with him on the ice.
To honor his spirit, the Simsbury Youth Hockey Association created a scholarship fund to enable any player to participate in the SYHA program, regardless of financial ability. Many parents and players have generously donated to this fund and SYHA raises funds throughout the year to enable as many players a possible to benefit from this generosity.
In order to qualify, a family needs only to print and complete the application form attached below and include a copy of their previous year's IRS Form 1040.
The application is reviewed - in strictest confidentiality - by a four member sub-panel of the SYHA Board of Directors consisting of the President, Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Policy, and Treasurer. Scholarships are awarded strictly based on financial need. Applications for the 2019-20 season should be submitted no later than September 15th.
